From a Private Brewery to an Incorporated Company

We already think that the authentic character and balanced taste of the AKTIEN Landbier specialties are reason enough to stock them in your fridge, but they also give our customers the opportunity to experience the brewing culture of the Franconian region of North Bavaria.

However, there are so many more reasons why we’re a fan of the Bayreuther Bierbrauerei AG and in today’s #FridayFive we want to list some of them

1. Brew traditions for over 150 years

Hugo Bayerlein was 24 years old when he decided to establish a brewery at his private home to enable him to create beer based on his personal taste. Even though, this was quite unusual for that time, his beer creations were convincing because of modern techniques and excellent cooling and storage facilities.

2. To go “onto the cellar”

The location of the brewery was wisely chosen as it is on top of spacious rock cellars which were carved out in the late Middle Age. The constant cool temperature has been perfect for the storage and fermentation of the beers. To ensure the cellars stayed cool, trees were planted on top of the cellars to give shade, and still today, people say they are going “onto the cellar” when they Franconian food and, of course, the beers.

3. Four ingredients for honest beer

All AKTIEN Landbier specialties are brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot from 1516, which is why there are only 4 ingredients used. The water for the brewing is from a mountain range near Bayreuth, called “Fichtelgebirge”. The malt is from malthouses using only locally produced barley. The hops originate in “Hallertau” in Bavaria and “Spalt” in Franconian. Last but not least, the yeast is cultivated in house itself.

4. What makes beers special?

It’s not only the fact that AKTIEN beers are brewed with over 150 years of tradition and knowledge that makes them so remarkable. The swing top bottle is another trait which customers especially like about these beers. Once you finished a bottle, you can easily reuse it, thanks to the closing mechanism.

5. The variety

The last, and probably most important point, is the variety of the beers. The AKTIEN Landbier Original 1857 is a beer that develops a full-bodied spicy flavor. However, the AKTIEN Landbier Dunkel is more robust and full-bodied in flavor. It’s a dark lager beer with a flavor of caramel and bread crust. The third one is a beer, AKTIEN Zwick’l, has a light delicate reddish color and a finely balanced nuances of malt and bitters. So, no matter what, we’re sure there is a flavor for (almost) everyone.
